Job Description

The full-time M&E and Communications Manager will ensure organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization's measurement and impact assessment in Sierra Leone. Reporting to the Country Director and working closely with the Sierra Leone-based Program Director and the US-based Development Director, s/he will oversee and manage all monitoring and evaluation activities in Sierra Leone and communicate our impact to an international audience.  The successful candidate will be a leader who is both independent and highly collaborative, with a deep belief in community-driven development, broad knowledge of participatory M&E, and great storytelling and writing abilities. The position will be located in the small town of Bunumbu in Eastern Sierra Leone with travel to nearby communities.  The M&E and Communications Manager will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a new model and work directly with local communities and capacity building with front-line staff.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Country Director, Program Director and senior staff to strengthen data-driven program development and decision-making.
  • Lead the evolution of OVP’s monitoring and evaluation approach, including creating and vetting indicators, improving our theory of change and data collection, developing processes, and building staff capacity.
  • Ensure data integrity – data collection, storage, entry, checking, cleaning, analysis and reporting.
  • Report on monthly, quarterly, and annual progress providing information to all relevant stakeholders, including project participants. Set and report on targets.
  • Create and conduct staff trainings.
  • Collect and write persuasive stories about our work.
  • Contribute to the growth of the organization’s social media, website and blog.
  • Capture and collect photos and video.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, masters preferred. Study in Program Evaluation, Research Methodology, Statistics or related degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in evaluation. Experience conceptualizing, developing and implementing a monitoring and evaluation system using participatory methods essential. Previous experience with Most Significant Change and Outcome Harvesting methodologies a benefit.
  • Experience working in Africa an advantage.
  • Fluency and proven writing ability in English.
  • Experience providing capacity building, training or facilitated learning.
  • Willingness to commit to a 2 year contract living and working in Bunumbu, Eastern Sierra Leone.
