Communications Manager Volunteer Position, MN NGO Network (MINN)

Primary Duties:
The MINN Communications Manager is responsible for promoting MINN’s presence through its website, bi-monthly email blasts, social media and other organizational communication needs as necessary. 

Create / implement a robust social media schedule (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) and utilize Hootsuite as needed.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have previous experience producing electronic newsletters and serving as a community manager of social media properties. 

Other Qualifications 
  • Interest in gaining exposure to international NGOs 
  • Interest in international humanitarian, aid, relief and/or development and/or desire to work with communities abroad 
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Docs and Gmail and willingness to learn other platforms 
  • Strong writing/communication and proof reading skills 
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to multi-task 
  • Attention to detail and previous office experience 
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently when tasks are assigned 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently 
  • Ability to self-monitor work and keep on task. 
  • Ideally candidate will have previous experience in Drupal, MailChimp, Eventbrite, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Facebook and/or Twitter environments. 

The ideal candidate is asked to commit to this volunteer position for one year from approximately December 2015 until December 2016. While this is an unpaid effort, MINN is recognized as the affinity group for international humanitarian organizations working in Minnesota, and the candidate will gain connections in the sector. 

Additional Information:
  • S/he would serve as a point of contact for MINN’s Communications efforts. 
  • The manager provides assistance to all communications activities, including (but not limited to): 
  • Be responsible for responding to emails via the communications@minnesotangos.org address 
  • Ensure bi-monthly emails are drafted and distributed to MINN's newsletter list 
  • Upload and/or write stories and/or information to electronic platforms (Drupal, Mailchimp, etc) 
  • Work with volunteer freelance writers to create original content that is of interest to the MINN community (internal social marketing) 
  • Ensure MINN’s presence via social media (Linked In, Facebook, Twitter) 
  • Collaborate with the MINN Board on creating and establishing the communications and marketing objectives for the year.
