ICGC Brown Bag Oct 30 "Soil Health & Quality for Food Security"

Soil Health and Quality for Food Security: A View Through the Microbial Lens
Presented by: Dr. Julie Grossman, Department of Horticultural Science

Friday October 30th, 2015
Noon-1pm
537 Heller Hall

Abstract: Soil is a critical piece of the food security puzzle, especially in regions where fertilizers are not accessible. Today’s presentation will give us a ‘view from below’ to learn how soil biology contributes to creating sustainable food production systems. Julie’s research broadly explores the ways in which we can better manage these plant-soil-microbe relationships in order to enhance soil fertility through microbial processes. Today she will give an overview of her research program, specifically focusing on the use of legumes to help improve soil nitrogen cycling.
