Ambassador Wilson was a career member of the Senior Foreign Service.  His career focused on the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, and on international trade.  In Washington, he was Deputy Executive Secretary of the Department of State, and Senior Negotiator of the Free Trade Agreement of The Americas.  He served as Ambassador to Azerbaijan 2000-2003, and Ambassador to Turkey 2005-2008.  A native of Minnesota and graduate of the University of Minnesota, he has recently returned to the region along with his wife, Margo Squires, also a Russia specialist and retired Foreign Service Officer.
