Saferworld: Sudan Country Manager (Kampala)

The deadline for applications is 31 January 2016

Saferworld is an independent international organisation working to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. We work with local people affected by conflict to improve their safety and sense of security, and conduct wider research and analysis. We use this evidence and learning to improve local, national and international policies and practices that can help build lasting peace. Our priority is people: we believe that everyone should be able to lead peaceful, fulfilling lives, free from insecurity and violent conflict.

Saferworld has been working on conflict and security issues related to Sudan since 2008. Our growing programme focuses on capacity building for partners working for conflict transformation in Sudan, as well as policy analysis and advocacy.

The Country Manager will be responsible for further developing Saferworld’s Sudan country strategy and programme, leading the implementation of current and future activities and developing and managing relationships with international and national actors working towards a peaceful Sudan.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years at senior management level, with proven experience managing multi-thematic programmes in development and/or peacebuilding/conflict prevention organisations, and in a conflict-affected and logistically challenging environment, ideally Sudan. S/he will have a good knowledge of Sudan, and preferably of South Sudan and/or the region; Arabic language skills would be an advantage.
