International Researcher Series - Mar 9
Skills for Health Research in Low and Middle Income Countries: Household and Survey-Based Research will be the focus for the second installment of the International Researcher Series. To aid those undertaking global health research outside of clinical settings avoid pitfalls and gather high-quality data,Dr. Benjamin Capistrant from the School of Public Health will share tools and lessons learned from his field work in Malawi and India. Screening of "Lost Boys of Sudan" - Mar 10
Join us for a screening of "Lost Boys of Sudan," a documentary that depicts the extraordinary journey of two Sudanese refugees from Africa to America. Prior to the film, Micaela Schuneman, Director of Refugee Services at the International Institute of Minnesota, will discuss her experiences with the resettlement of refugees in Minnesota. The film will be followed by a short Q&A session. Hosted by the Global Health Student Advisory Board and the SPH Film Series. Mar 10, 5 p.m., Mayo 3-100. Learn more.

Global Health Summer Education Opportunities from CGHSR
  • An Info Session will be held on March 22 and applications are due April 4th.  Ecuador: Social and Cultural Determinants of Health - July 11 to 22, 2016 - This 2-week course will provide a global health team-based learning experience in Ecuador. Participants will learn about the public health and health care infrastructure in Ecuador, including western and indigenous health practices.
  • Ecuador: Global Health Placement - 2 & 4 week options following the course above - This program will provide a global health field placement in Ecuador. Participants will be placed in internships with community organizations that match participants’ and organizations’ interests, priorities, and goals.
  • India: Applied Research in Urban and Rural Health - July 8 to Aug 6, 2016 - This four-week program in Bangalore will introduce students to the social determinants of health that drive individuals’ health and health care system responses in India. Students will participate in small group learning, a shadowed research experience with close mentorship, and experience exposure to health systems in rural and urban settings.
