Ap 21 “Budgeting for Human Rights”

Join us for a discussion on human rights.

We are pleased to invite you to attend a presentation of the Human Rights Watch Advisory Project, titled “Budgeting for Human Rights.” The presentation will be held on Thursday, April 21st at 2 PM in the Stassen Room (120) of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

This year, a team of UMN students is consulting with Human Rights Watch (HRW) on budget analysis and human rights. Our interdisciplinary team was asked to deliver to HRW a comprehensive report detailing current methodologies utilized to conduct budget analyses in the field of human rights, the promises and pitfalls of such analyses, and potential future applications of suitable methods for HRW as an organization. It is hoped that the report will contribute to HRW’s growing body of work monitoring the progressive realization of socio-economic rights. This presentation will provide an overview of our findings and report as well as an opportunity to receive feedback and field questions on our conclusions and presentation of the material. Additionally, we welcome your participation and presence with the hopes that your expertise can lend a critical ear to our work and better prepare us for our presentation at Human Rights Watch in May.
