Ap 30 Reimagining Social Medicine at UMN

For those interested in health equity, social justice, global health, and community-building, we would like to remind you of the upcoming Reimagining Social Medicine conference to be held April 30th, 2016 in Northrop on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Registration will close soon on April 20th, 2016 at 11:59pm. After that time, there will be no further on-line or same day registration available.

We wanted to make you aware of the following exciting conference updates:

* Over 500 people have registered to attend so there will be ample opportunity to learn and network with many members of the Twin Cities community engaged in health equity work across many disciplines and sectors;

* Ed Ehlinger, the Minnesota Commissioner of Health, will give an opening address to highlight the importance of this conference for health equity efforts here in Minnesota;

* Over 20 distinguished thought-leaders from Uganda, Haiti, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda will be present to share their vision for health equity;

* Jon Halberg, UMN Professor and Minnesota Public Radio Correspondent on Health, will be moderating a panel discussion with a group of global leaders involved in teaching social medicine.

* Interactive breakout sessions have been finalized featuring speakers with deep experience on the following topics:

1. Transformative Models of Social Medicine Education

2. Social Medicine in the Clinic: Narrative Medicine and the Social History

3. Bridging Clinic and Community: Interdisciplinary and Multisectoral Action to Address the Social Determinants of Health

4. Bearing Witness and Accompaniment: The Role of Community Health Workers in Acheiving Health Equity

5. Disruption and Discomfort: Social Movements Pushing Towards Health Equity

* Tom Crann, host of All Things Considered on Minnesota Public Radio, will close the day with a special conversation and interview with Paul Farmer

* We will conclude with a closing networking cheese and fruit reception catered by Surdyk's with a cash bar and opportunity for conversation with keynote speakers and other guests.
