Research and Policy Officer, Saferworld, Washington, DC



Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. We work with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development, in-country programming and through supporting the actions of others.

Saferworld’s advocacy team leads the organisation’s engagement with relevant government, inter-governmental and non-governmental institutions in the US, UK, EU and globally. Our team leads and supports Saferworld’s communications and policy activities to demonstrate the value and success of the organisation’s work and approach to key audiences.

The Research and Advocacy Officer will work for Saferworld USA in the Washington DC office to help influence US policy through our global work, and to develop the work and sustainability of the organisation in the US context.

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the international discourse on conflict, security and development coupled with a strong knowledge of US policies and institutions. S/he will have a post-graduate degree in development studies, international relations or similar discipline and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a public policy research, advocacy or development position
