• Integration of APEC’s Junior High school (Grades 6-10) and Senior High School (Grades 11-12)
curriculum and staff.

• Execution of the annual testing plan, which includes administering national and international
benchmarks, and transforming the learnings from exam results into content and teaching
improvements/innovations.

• Increasing the Academic Team’s resources, which includes sufficient staffing, adequate equipment, and commensurate benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the APEC’s CEO, the Chief Academic Officer will have primary authority and
accountability for the academic performance of all schools and will provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for APEC’s curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The CAO will manage the Academic Team and will sit on the Management Team, helping to shape and drive initiatives across the organization. The CAO will be responsible for the overall day-to-day effective operation of all educational components of APEC, including:

• Lead instructional design to ensure that it is DepEd K-12 Curriculum aligned.

• Create a common approach, time commitment, and definition of quality for all elements of the Math, Science, and English instruction

• Ensure vertical (K-12) and horizontal (across schools) alignment of instructional design.

• Develop and facilitate professional development and coaching necessary for teachers, content
developers, assessment professionals, and data analysts to effectively implement the instructional

• Participate as a member of the APEC Leadership Team that sets and oversees the strategy for all APEC programming.

• Refine the vision for and manage the Academic Team.

• Review assessment tools on a regular basis to ensure they are aligned with instructional design and
provide information needed for schools to most effectively serve our students.

• Support the implementation of instructional technology pilots and initiatives.

The CAO will be expected to use his/her extensive experience and leadership to foster best practices and ensure sustainability and scalability of the educational model. The CAO must be capable of working on two levels –both educational rigor and excellence as well as a cost-effective business approach. The CAO must be capable of driving APEC to success in a competitive and fast-paced environment, under cost-constraints, and

considering a very specific set of macroeconomic and microeconomic circumstances. The position is hands-on and requires the person appointed to spend considerable time in schools, with children, teachers, school

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• A passionate, committed, energetic educationalist, with at least five years’ experience in teacher
training, curriculum development, assessment and/or educational research.

• Holds at least a master’s degree in education or a related discipline.

• Comprehensive understanding the significant role that low cost private schooling is already playing in the Philippine educational landscape, and awareness of how it can be improved even further.

• Eagerness to improve educational opportunities for aspirational, yet low-income families in the
Philippines, with ideas on innovative teaching and learning approaches.

• Excellent leadership skills, a proven management track record, and comfort in a start-up company that is rapidly scaling up as a large chain of schools, where both adaptability and high performance is
expected at all times.

• Data-driven, with the ability to collect, use, and understand data, and the awareness of how data can
inform the educational innovation and support the learning process.
