Invitation: discussion of U.S. sanctions against Russia on February 28

War and Peace and Export/Import Law: A Conversation About Federal Sanctions Against Russia

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs Global Programs and the University's Research Compliance Office invite you to a discussion of the history and present contours of U.S. trade restrictions involving Russia.

We'll review the history of U.S. economic law and policy regarding the U.S.S.R. and its successor states, take an in-depth look at the current sanctions (especially as they might impact the university community), and consider potential future developments.  It's a sweeping saga of revolution and regulation, pipelines and propaganda, grain and Gazprom.

Where?  Freeman Commons, Humphrey School 205.

When?  2:00-4:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28.

Who?  Our speaker will be Patrick Briscoe, the University's Export Controls and International Projects Officer.  He holds a J.D. from Georgetown University and a B.A. in English and History from the University of New Mexico.  Patrick's experience with export controls and economic sanctions goes back almost two decades.

Seating is limited to forty (40).  If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Patrick Briscoe (bris0022@umn.edu612-625-3860).
