Internship Oppportunities with Women's March Minnesota

Position Summary
Women’s March Minnesota (www.womensmarchmn.com) is seeking motivated advocates for social and political change to help shape the strategic direction and operational framework of Women’s March Minnesota. We are looking to hire interns for summer 2017, with the potential for an extended term based on performance and organizational needs. You will collaborate with a small team of interns and dedicated volunteers to shape and implement Women’s March Minnesota’s strategies and programs. In addition each intern will work with designated members of the WMM steering committee to identify needs and brainstorm solutions.

Duties
Duties will vary by intern and will change as projects grow and develop. Some tasks may
include:
● Communications
○ Working with the communications committee; develop a weekly newsletter and
calls to action for distribution to our 25,000+ members
○ Develop a strong social media presence and strategy (Facebook, twitter,
Instagram etc)
○ Write short articles for inclusion on website about events and actions. Highlight
successes and challenges we face.
■ Develop series of stories that highlight the individuals who participated in
the women’s march on January 21, 2017
● Volunteer Management and administration
○ Data entry
○ Develop file maintenance procedures. organize electronic files
● Community Organizing
○ Engage with partner organizations to develop events that promote their work and
amplify their voices.
○ Represent WMM at a variety of events
○ Seek out events in Minnesota that should be promoted on our website and in
emails, input this information into the website content management system.
● Legislative
○ Develop systems for effectively managing large amounts of information
○ Track relevant legislation and create “calls to action”
● Fundraising
○ Assist with various fundraising activities, as needed.

Preferred qualifications
● Demonstrated interest in social justice and human rights
● Excellent writing and proofreading skills
● Flexible and Reliable
● Knowledgeable in social media, SEO and analytics
● Strong people skills
● Proficient in a variety of computer programs including but not limited to; social media,
Microsoft Office, G suite (formerly google apps) Squarespace, Basecamp and others
Time requirements and Schedule
● Interns are expected to commit at least 15 hours a week
● We will schedule one weekly standing meeting at a time that is mutually agreeable for
the team, otherwise the interns will self organize their work at their own location.
● Personal laptop is required for this opportunity

Expected Learning Outcomes
● Gain an understanding of how a volunteer organization is built at the grassroots level.
● Develop better understanding of how local action connects with regional, national, and
international conditions.
● Gain knowledge and experience in how to affect change within the legislative process.
● Increase skills for understanding and working with people of diverse backgrounds and
cultures and to work effectively within diverse environments.
● Develop skills to work effectively within formal and informal networks and work cultures.
● Gain experience with writing and editing blog posts and other articles for a variety of
digital mediums.
● WMM is happy to work with students who need an internship to fulfill a degree
requirement or whom are seeking academic credit for this experience.
