Oslo Summer School update from MPP Bland & MSTEP Kappler

MPP student Marinda Bland (http://globalnotes.hhh.umn.edu/2017/03/mpp-bland-awarded-smaby-fellowship-for.html) and MSTEP student Kelsey Kappler (http://globalnotes.hhh.umn.edu/2017/03/mstep-kappler-awarde-smaby-fellowship.html) participated in the 2017 Olso Summer School.

Kesley's update:  "We'd been studying a course called Energy, the Environment, and Sustainability. During the course we not only got to learn about sustainability in Norway through discussions and excursions, but also spoke with lecturers that are working in different fields all over the world!

Of course we haven't been all work and no play over there, I mean we were in Norway. We had time to explore the city, saw Oslo’s midsummers festival and pride parade, visited museums, hiked, and played volleyball at the nearby lake! Marinda went on an excursion to Halingdal to visit a wildlife park, while I had the opportunity to hike in Jotunheimen and go river rafting (see picture).

Of course the highlight has been meeting and exchanging ideas with students from all over the world. We've gotten to know folks from all over the globe (countries represented in our class were: Armenia/France, Belarus, Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Uganda, the UK, and Vietnam).  I've attached  a photo of Marinda and me at the school."

Marinda added: "I have attached a photo of myself on a solo excursion to the Energi Garden in Brandbu to learn about the bioenergy industry in Norway. I am standing next to a tree harvesting truck."
