The United States is linked to the countries of the Western Hemisphere by physical proximity, shared values, and vast cultural, commercial, and demographic ties. Through decades of collaboration and partnership, Western Hemisphere nations have built strong networks that facilitate the efficient movement of knowledge, ideas, and technology throughout the region. With an increasingly diverse offering of awards, opportunities abound for U.S. academics and professionals to engage in original and pioneering research and teaching activities in Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Most countries in the Western Hemisphere welcome applications from any field of study and offer broad and flexible opportunities through All Disciplines, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences and Humanities awards.

Regional highlights for the 2016-2017 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program include:
  • Brazil: Over 40 grants are available across all disciplines and career stages.
  • Canada: In partnership with the Norlien Foundation, Fulbright Canada offers three grants through the Distinguished Chair in Brain Science and Family Wellness award.
  • Haiti: A new award with Quisqueya University seeks to prepare students to address the economic and social development needs of Haiti.
  • Mexico: U.S. Studies opportunities are available at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and the Universidad Veracruzana to mentor students and teach undergraduate courses in English.
The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program and is supported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world.
