Post Investment Associate
Acumen is seeking an Associate in its New York office to work with our Global Portfolio team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate with 2-4 years of consulting or operational experience and a deep commitment to building community to solve some of the world’s most challenges problems.  The primary responsibilities for the role will include data acquisition, financial analysis and community/event engagement.

Portfolio Team
Acumen’s Portfolio team is responsible for finding, vetting, and managing investments in game-changing social enterprises that serve the poor in our six portfolio sectors: water, health, housing, energy, agriculture, and education. The Post Investment team provides direct and indirect support to existing companies in our portfolio through tracking key performance metrics and hands-on relationship management.  The three key pillars to our Post Investment program include: Technical Assistance, Leadership Development and Community Engagement.

The Associate will directly support Acumen’s post-investment management processes. This will include overseeing the community management work, managing data collection / assessment and engaging in other cross-functional opportunities.  More specifically, the Associate will support the Post Investment Manager in the following areas:
Design, development and management of the Community Engagement Program
  • Support preparation and execution of Acumen’s Regional CEO Summits
  • Manage Acumen’s online CEO Community
  • Develop and improve Acumen’s online resources to support investee companies
  • Develop and test innovative new offerings to unlock value with investee companies
Collect, aggregate and analyze key financial, operational and social metrics
  • Support implementation of new portfolio management system (eFront) including the preparation of training materials and support with onboarding global and regional teams
  • Manage production of Acumen’s annual review process, in coordination with global portfolio colleagues
  • Manage quarterly metrics collection from Acumen investee companies and analyze date by identifying trends, highlighting gaps or interpreting outliers to support CIO with quarterly portfolio updates
  • Support with the implementation of a new portfolio management system
  • Develop training materials to onboard regional teams to new platform
Assist Post Investment Manager across other programs
  • Support building and managing external partnerships with funders, corporate partners, consultancies, universities and other key stakeholders
  • Support cross-functional collaboration within Acumen (Impact, Global Fellows, Strategic Partnerships, etc.)
  • Support grant-writing activities
  • Support events design and logistic for regional and global partnerships
The Associate will be expected to build a successful capability in a fast-changing and entrepreneurial environment, and will be expected to bring exceptional judgment, deep operational expertise and an excellent track record of similar accomplishment.
This role will report to the Post Investment Manager and require cross-functional collaboration with the regional Portfolio Managers (primary points-of-contact with CEOs), Chief Investment Officer and the Portfolio Leadership Team on select high priority engagements.
Qualifications & Characteristics
  • 2-4 years of experience in management consulting, investment management and/or startup operations
  • 2-4 years of experience building and/or managing community/multiple stakeholder engagements.
  • Very strong financial comprehension and data management skills as demonstrated by prior experience.
  • Strong ability to take initiative with research and analysis and produce valuable results in conditions of uncertainty
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a clear and succinct manner to Acumen management, partners and investees.
  • International work experience preferred
  • Capacity to work with across different countries and cultures
  • Ideally be familiar with the social enterprise sector and leadership development programs
  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
