Org. Setting and Reporting:
This consultant will work in the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General of the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) and report to the Director and Deputy Head of PBSO. The consultancy will be for three months.

Within delegated authority, the consultant will be responsible for the following:

Communications Plan
Develop a two years communications plan for PBSO with two options: (i) a cost-neutral option (i.e. a plan to be implemented with existing resources); and (ii) a low-cost option (with a specification of required human and financial resources).

Assist focal points from the three branches and liaise with DPI for the redesign of the PBF website, integrating it into the PBC and PBSO websites, and to maintain it updated with PBF success stories, and overall what-PBF-does page.

Partnership and Outreach
Develop a new PBSO/Peacebuilding brochure and at least 5 one-page PBF "success” stories, and design a folder containing them, together with the updated PBF brochure.

The consultant is expected to deliver, in 3 months, the following:

The PBSO Communications Plan;
A redesigned PBSO website, integrating and updating the PBF one, with protocols for maintenance;
a) A PBSO/Peacebuilding brochure; b) a minimum of 5 one-page PBF “success” stories; and a PBSO folder to contain a+b and the updated PBF brochure.


Professionalism: Knowledge of different aspects of public information and communication. Ability to conceptualize and design major information tools, including websites. Ability to produce a variety of written communications products in a clear, concise style.

Communication: Excellent drafting skills required to produce a variety of written materials.
Technological Awareness: Knowledge of applications and software for media and website design.


Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, or related area. Demonstrable writing skills and ability to manage social media tools required. Familiarity with the UN and peacebuilding issues and challenges is desirable.

Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Language: English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations. For this post, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French is highly desirable.
