Job at Saferworld: East Africa

Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research, and policy development, and through supporting the actions of others.

The Head of East Africa is responsible for overseeing the design and delivery of Saferworld’s country programmes in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, and Sudan. S/he will also contribute to the development of broader regional interests and identify strategic opportunities for new engagements where they occur. The post holder will contribute to Saferworld’s organisational learning and strategy development as a member of the Organisational Management Team.

The person we are looking for will have an excellent understanding of the discourse on conflict prevention and transformation, peacebuilding, security and justice sector development/reform, and of the international policy environment in which these issues are addressed. They will have a minimum of five years’ senior management experience, preferably in a non-government organisation and a proven ability to undertake and lead strategic planning, programme development, and evaluation.
