Reminder Wed, Apr 6--CARE event at HHH with Rep. McCollum, Reem Khamis, & Sherry Gray

Women as Refugees in International Development

April 6 | 4:30—6:30 p.m. | Humphrey School of Public Affairs | Cowles Auditorium

Event timeline:

4:30 to 5 p.m.: Reception
5 to 6:30 p.m.: Program

Women are key to international development. Empowering women through health care, education, and finance results in better lives for themselves, their families, and communities. But what happens when large numbers of people are uprooted from their homes and social systems by political upheaval and violence? Women, in particular, are prevented from performing the economic and social activities that would otherwise lift their families from poverty, causing further dependence rather than self-sufficiency.

Join a presentation and discussion on the tragic effects of refugee status on millions of women and their families, and efforts to prevent and solve the refugee crisis. We will have CARE Senior Director of Government Affairs Kristin Wells, US Rep Betty McCollum (D - St. Paul), and Reem Khamis from American Refugee Committee.  Humphrey School's Sherry Gray will moderate.

Cosponsored by CARE Action Network, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and Global Minnesota.
