Crimea and the Crimean Tatars: A Film Event
A special screening of the new documentary “A Struggle for Home: The Crimean Tatars”
Maidan Minnesota in partnership with the Ukrainian American Community Center invites the general public to attend a special screening of the new documentary about Crimean Tatars on May 20th, 2016 at 6:30pm.Produced by Ukrainian American filmmaker, Christina Paschyn, “A Struggle for Home: The Crimean Tatars,” explores the history and culture of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of Crimea, Ukraine, and chronicles the events surrounding the 2014 Russian invasion and occupation of the peninsula. Filmed in Crimea in 2012, this powerful film includes interviews with historians, survivors of the 1944 deportation, Crimean Tatar leaders, young activists, and pro-Russian nationalists.
During a executive committee meeting of the World Congress of Crimean Tatars (2016) and an international conference on Mass Violations of Human Rights in Crimea, Vytautas Landsbergis claimed that the Crimean Tatars are "the new enslaved nation in today's Europe.”
