Humphrey School Welcomes Simone Gbolo as PPIA National Director

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs is delighted to introduce Simone Gbolo as the new national director of the Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Program, who begins in her role on Friday, April 15. The PPIA Program is a national nonprofit organization that promotes the inclusion and full participation of underrepresented groups in public service and recently selected the Humphrey School as host of its national headquarters.

Simone comes to PPIA from the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Office of Admissions, where she has served as director of its Pipeline Programs since 2013. In this role Simone has led the initiatives that assist students from broadly diverse backgrounds to successfully matriculate to medical school. Prior to this, she served as associate program director of the North Star STEM Alliance at the University of Minnesota where she helped socialize students to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields and STEM careers. Her professional background has included varied experiences in higher education and nonprofit organizations including Century College, St. Catherine University, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and the American Lung Association. In all of her work Simone has demonstrated a deep commitment to developing meaningful initiatives that cultivate and engage students as they pursue careers that impact social change and transformation and providing service to others in addressing the social challenges in the world.

Simone Gbolo has a B.S., an M.Ed. (youth development leadership) and an M.A. (multicultural college teaching and learning) from the University of Minnesota, and is earning her Doctorate of Philosophy, also from the University of Minnesota. The PPIA national office is located at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota.
