Sept 14 Persian Regs: U.S. Trade Sanctions Against Iran

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs Global Programs and the University's Research Compliance Office invite you to a discussion on the history and current contours of U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Iran has been the subject of a U.S. trade embargo since 1980. We'll explore the embargo's origins, its evolution over the decades, and recent and future developments under the multilateral Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action--a long-term undertaking that ties phased sanctions relief to the implementation of certain controls on Iran's nuclear program. In addition, we'll discuss how U.S. sanctions apply specifically to Iran-related research and educational activities, such as peer review and attending conferences in Iran.

Where? Freeman Commons, Humphrey School 205.

When? 2:00-4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14.

Who? Our speaker will be Patrick Briscoe, the University's Export Controls and International Projects Officer. He holds a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, and has been working in the field of export controls and economic sanctions since 1998.

Seating is limited to forty (40). Please RSVP to Patrick Briscoe (, 612-625-3860).
