Position Summary

The International Communications Manager works both independently and collaboratively to develop a wide range of communications materials, covering the scope of the Institute’s international work. This position will offer critical, substantive support to senior staff, particularly the Senior International Communications Manager, and will help to ensure the coordination of the outreach efforts of the communications team and the Institute as a whole. The ideal candidate has a passion for sexual and reproductive health issues globally, and is able to synthesize and summarize in writing the Institute’s work for communication to audiences including media, policymakers and advocates in-country, regionally and globally.


  • Working closely with other Institute staff, drafts news releases, fact sheets, social media posts, infographic content and website content for the Institute’s international research studies and reports, and work with international agencies such as the UN;
  • Conceptualizes and writes letters to the editor, blog posts, News in Context features, Evidence Checks and other materials as needed;
  • Identifies international days of action, conferences and other opportunities to promote Guttmacher’s international work;
  • Works with senior communications staff to develop and implement dissemination strategies;
  • Supports the Senior International Communications Manager in coordinating work with in-country communications partners;
  • Assists in drafting and compiling highlights and data for internal updates from the Communications Team, periodic reports for funders and the Guttmacher Board;
  • Oversees the promotion of articles published in the Institute’s peer-reviewed journal International Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health;
  • Sets up and disseminates e-mail messages to Guttmacher email lists via Mail Chimp; Posts news releases and other materials to Institute Web site;
  • Assists in web content development and website content curation;
  • Drafts PowerPoint slides and other presentations for senior staff;
  • Assists in managing social media platforms in social media manager’s absence;
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Journalism, Public Relations or related fields;
  • Minimum of three to five years relevant work experience;
  • Excellent communications and writing skills;
  • Ability to understand statistical materials;
  • An interest in sexual and reproductive health and promoting Guttmacher’s mission;
  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines and juggle priorities and multiple projects;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team;
  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the year;
  • Knowledge of public health, reproductive health, social science research, and/or human rights and social justice issues preferred;
  • Some project management experience preferred;
  • Must possess cultural competence and sensitivity when interacting with a diverse array of partners and audiences; and
  • Fluency in French and or Spanish a strong plus, but not required.
