Somalia Growth, Enterprise, Employment and Livelihoods (GEEL) Project

Growth, Enterprise, Employment & Livelihoods (GEEL) is a 5-year USAID development project designed to promote and facilitate inclusive economic growth in Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug, South West, Jubaland, Hir-Shabelle, and Benadir Region by improving economic productivity, access to markets, and economic infrastructure, increasing employment, investments, and opportunity. The project is focused on assisting both existing and new businesses and cooperatives of all sizes operating in the agriculture, fisheries, livestock and renewable energy sectors. GEEL is also working to strengthen the business enabling environment through improving access to finance, policy and regulation, and business development services. These in turn will have a transformative impact in accelerating Somalia’s reintegration into the global economy. The project also seeks to increase the participation of women and youth in the economy as entrepreneurs, employers, and employees.

MOHAMED ABDINOOR: Mohamed Abdinoor currently serves as the Chief of Party (COP) of USAID/Somalia funded Growth, Enterprise, Employment and Livelihood (GEEL) Project. Mr. Abdinoor is based in Mogadishu but frequently travels to other parts of Somalia. He is ethnically a Somali who was born, brought up, and educated in Kenya. Mohamed has 16 years of international development mostly in the Horn of Africa-Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan working on humanitarian and development programs. Prior to taking up the GEEL COP role, Mohamed worked with USAID/Ethiopia as Head of Resilience and Deputy Feed the Future Team Leader. Mohamed has Masters in International Development from University of East Anglia (UK).
