Multilateral Financing and the Future of Brazilian Development
Presented by: Raquel Dantas do Amaral, ICGC Visiting Scholar
School of Architecture & Urbanism, University of São Paulo
Abstract: In the highly competitive neoliberal context in Brazil, in which land has become an increasingly lucrative commodity, the state and Multilateral Development Banks are busy preparing territories for restless capital. In disregard of social and environmental consequences, the state is strengthening the inequality of space, supporting the aggressive neoliberal movement. This talk will focus on how multilateral-financed development projects reinforce this logic, highlighting the imbricated relationship between the Brazilian State and the MDBs.
