Position Summary:
This 15-hour Development and Communications Intern position is based in our headquarters office in Minnetonka, with the possibility of up to 50% of the hours being completed from home. The Development and Communications Intern will increase SFL’s online presence, maintain contact with donors, and reach out to new potential donors, and build up our capacity for rapid response. This is a part-time volunteer/ internship position, with the potential to develop into a paid part-time position, should the intern prove to be a good fit.
Essential Responsibilities:
Initiate communications with donors (40%)
- Keep public updated on program progress and upcoming program needs
- Research and contact potential new donors
- Respond to phone calls and inquiries about donations
- Create newsletters with human interest stories
- Meet with SFL staff regarding developing humanitarian crises
- Develop fundraising campaigns and recruit donors to respond to developing crises
- Coordinate communications with other responding agencies
- Developing a data base of interested rapid response/ crisis assessment volunteers
- Maintain SFL website
- Post activities and stories to social media
- Generate increased traffic to SFL related sites
Qualifications:
Required: Current student or recent graduate in a program related to International Development. Familiar with non-profit funding mechanisms. Strong organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort with cold calling. Strong command of written and spoken English language. Strong computer skills in spreadsheets, data base systems, and use of social networking. Champions the values and work of SFL.
Preferred: Graduate student with international experience. Website design ability.
