A global network strengthening youth-driven peacebuilding

The United Network of Young Peacebuilders is looking for a leading coordinator with responsibility for our strategy and network development, starting as soon as possible. Full time position, based in The Hague.

We are a youth-led network of 80 youth organisations from 50 countries around the world. Our International Secretariat is located in The Hague, the city of peace and justice. The secretariat is run by a young and dedicated international team of four staff and two to four interns. The management of the network is done on the basis of shared leadership between two leading coordinators. Now we are looking for a new leading coordinator, responsible for the strategy and network development.

The field of youth participation in peacebuilding has entered into a new phase in recent years, with the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 2250 on youth, peace and security. As the leading youth voice on peace and security globally, UNOY Peacebuilders is in a crucial position to continue shaping this conversation and action. We are going through a period of active development, transforming the network to make it increasingly responsive to members’ needs and ensuring that we continue to be able to move the global conversation forward. As leading coordinator responsible for strategy and network development, you will lead this process.

You will work on the following areas:

1. Strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation
Lead internal planning process at UNOY Peacebuilders’, including the development of (multi-) annual strategic plans and annual plans. In this, you will work together with the board, the International Steering Group and the other leading coordinator.
Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the strategic and annual plans, as well as reporting on the implementation of these plans.

2. Network management
Set ambitions for and lead the development of the network to increase the sense of community among member organisations and work towards creating a more decentralised network.
Manage communications between member organisations and the International Secretariat, working with Regional Coordinators.
Support the work of the International Steering Group, the governing body representing member organisations in the network.

3. Organisational management
Manage day-to-day operations of International Secretariat, including human resources.
Support the work of the UNOY Peacebuilders board, the governing body responsible for the International Secretariat.
Develop, monitor and report on annual budgets in cooperation with financial coordinator and monitor spending at the organisational level
Represent UNOY Peacebuilders towards external stakeholders and in global networks

4. Fundraising (joint responsibility with other leading coordinator)
Identify funding opportunities for the continued growth and development of UNOY Peacebuilders.
Lead and participate in the writing of funding applications.
Represent UNOY Peacebuilders towards donors and potential donors.
You’re great for the job if you have:
a relevant postgraduate university degree
at least 3 years experience (paid or unpaid) working within the fields of peacebuilding and/or youth
organisational and project management skills (including budget management), relation-management skills, proven fundraising skills (including good knowledge of relevant donors)
excellent written and spoken English
a good understanding of peacebuilding and conflict transformation theory
a good understanding of youth participation in policy making
an inclusive approach to dealing with people and a proactive attitude to your job

You’re perfect if you also have:
experience of a leadership position in a youth organization/movement/network
a solid understanding of the UN, EU, AU and/or Council of Europe
understanding of the gendered aspects of the youth, peace and security agenda
additional language skills. French is strongly preferred. Spanish, Arabic and Russian are also useful
coaching and/or facilitation skills

The position is 1 FTE. The gross salary will range between €1.800-2.000 monthly
