Caroline Light Presents: "'Trapped in History': Collective Memory and Social Justice"
Friday, December 1st | 12:00 pm
325 Nicholson Hall, UMN East Bank
Starting with James Baldwin's famous assertion, "people are trapped in history and history is trapped in them," this informal discussion addresses intersections of historiography and justice. Caroline Light will discuss the complex ways in which contemporary politics frame collective memory while obfuscating the (re)production of power in the stories that take shape as historical "truth."
Presented by the Center for Jewish Studies.
