November's Meeting Topic: Building Bridges through the Arts with Blackout Improv and One Voice Mixed Chorus/Transgender Voices Festival

John Gebretatose rose from the ranks of a HUGE Improv Theater student, to a HUGE Improv instructor and now also the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. He trained and worked at Brave New Workshop and has been performing stand-up comedy in the Twin Cities for over nine years. John is a founding member of one of the hottest new improv groups, Blackout. He is the co-creator of the Black and Funny Improv Festival.

Max Gries is a gender non-binary and queer organizer and activist based in Minneapolis. Since the mid-1990s, they have served in a variety of roles including board co-chair of the Minnesota Transgender Health Coalition, founding co-chair and member of the leadership team of the U of MN Transgender Commission, board and committee member with One Voice Mixed Chorus and PFund Foundation, founder and organizer of genderBLUR arts and community building events, and manager of the first 2004 Transgender Voices Festival. Currently Max is serving as Festival Manager for the upcoming April 2018 Transgender Voices Festival with One Voice Mixed Chorus. Max works at Capella University in IT managing the change authorization process, is co-chair of the Capella Pride Alliance employee group, and has a small piano teaching studio.
