PROGRAM ASSOCIATE JOB DESCRIPTION
Bunumbu, Sierra Leone 

At OneVillage Partners, we believe that local communities are the solution to propelling long-term, sustainable development. Our model is grounded in Human Centered Design, which puts communities and their self-defined needs front and center. We currently implement two programs across 17 villages in Eastern Sierra Leone and have a headquarters office in Minneapolis, MN.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The full-time Program Associate will gain hands on experience collaborating with local and international staff while supporting the team in Sierra Leone to grow its innovative programs. Reporting to the Program Director and working closely with the Development and Communications Director in the US office along with all front-line staff and management in Sierra Leone. The Program Associate will support the Program Director by providing assistance with staff capacity building and contributing to curriculum development, as well as specified program development areas. Additionally, the Program associate will work with front line staff to share stories from our communities and help the Development and Communications Director with development of content to be used on social media, websites and any donor communications.

The Program Associate position is a 6-month minimum entry-level position. This position is ideal for someone who wants to gain on the ground experience in the development field with a growing organization. The position is based in the small town of Bunumbu in Eastern Sierra Leone with travel to nearby communities. This is an entry level, non-salaried position but comes with a competitive benefits package including: Living stipend, housing allowance, health and dental coverage, evacuation insurance, R&R, phone and mobile data allowance, and generous paid vacation, holiday and sick leave.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Program Support and Curriculum Development (30%) 

• Supports the ongoing development and refinement of program curricula, including field observations and team debriefs

• Collaborate with Program Director and/or relevant Managers to develop and plan program extensions and additional field activities.

• Supports development and implementation of program-wide initiatives

• Supports in development of learning documents for internal and external circulation

• Research topics based on need for OneVillage Partner’s programs, learning and growth

• Assist in developing external training modules and toolkits based on OneVillage Partners methodology and activities

• Identify areas of growth for the organization, particularly identify key areas for collaboration with other NGO’s

2. Capacity Building (20%) 

• Plan monthly staff trainings on a variety of topics, bringing in external facilitators or any relevant media when necessary

• Regularly assesses and identifies new areas of capacity building needs

• Assists with building capacity of staff in: technological, story writing and report writing

• Plans and facilitates monthly Staff Reflection Meetings

• Exposes front-line staff to new ideas and research relevant to our work

• Assists with Staff and Leadership retreats

• Directs monthly quote and photography competitions 

• Provide one on one support to team members and Managers in any areas of highlighted need, technical or otherwise

3. Writing and Reporting (25%)

• Supports in gathering information and writing grant applications and project updates

• Supports Program Teams in the development of Most Significant Change Stories

• Compiles and edits Monthly Report from Sierra Leone-based team

• Provides weekly communication updates to US-Based Development and Communications Director and participates in monthly planning calls

• Curates content for US fundraising events

• Researches and writes persuasive stories about our work for external use

• Provides content support for OneVillage Partners’ publications (annual report, newsletters, appeals)

4. Media Management (25%) 

• Capture captivating photos, videos and audio content from our work for online communications and internal use

• Serves as a brand ambassador in SL ensuring consistent use of the OneVillage Partners’ brand

• Serves as point person for any Communications related site visits (i.e. Photographers, Videographers, Radio Producers)

• Organizes and stores media captured by Program Teams for sharing between US and Sierra Leone offices

• Contributes to the growth of the organization’s social media; provides content for posts

• Identify new online opportunities to grow organizations social media reach

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in international development or similar, master’s degree is an advantage.

• 2-3 years of work experience in a related field.

• Minimum of 3 consecutive months abroad, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.

• Fluency and excellent writing ability in English.

• Competency in photography and graphic design, website design is an advantage

• Willingness to live in a rural environment for a minimum of 6 months in Eastern Sierra Leone.

• Passion for community-led development.

• Experience in facilitation and training an advantage

• Self-starter with excellent communication skills
