MPP Harper internship at the Citizen's League & the Capitol Pathways program

Robert Harper is a second year Master's in Public Policy student at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He decided to pursue a career in policy as a result of Citizen's League and the Capitol Pathways program, which is a program designed to propel more college students of color into policy positions. Through this program, Robert was placed with O'Rourke Strategic Consulting, a local lobbying organization. Having grown up around poverty and violence on the South side of Chicago, Illinois, Robert pursued and achieved his Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice.

These studies gave Robert an understanding of the systems and institutions that allow for certain areas and populations throughout the United States to be constantly under-resourced and under-educated. Robert currently works at the University of Minnesota as the Supplier Diversity Manager of Goods & Services where he is an advocate for businesses owned by Women, Minorities, and Disabled persons. He plans to use his professional experience at the University of Minnesota to prepare for informing policies that eliminate economic disparities.
