Acara Programs for Graduate Students

Are you a graduate or professional school student interested in learning the skills to effectively address a social and/or environmental problem? If so, one of these Acara programs may be of interest:
  • Acara Changemakers Lab: Apply by October 10 to join an interdisciplinary cohort of 12-15 students in this new co-curricular program that will give you the skills, network, access to funding, and coaching you need to learn how to successfully pilot your ideas. Program participants will be prepared to successfully compete in the annual Acara Challenge to win up to $5000 and an Acara Innovation Fellowship. Anyone who completes the program will receive a $500 stipend.
  • Interested in looking to make a tangible, real-world difference in the areas most devastated by the horrific effects of Hurricane Maria? Join us in Puerto Rico this January. Acara, the School of Architecture, and the University of Puerto Rico are launching a long-term interdisciplinary partnership to research and design practical solutions to Puerto Rico’s energy crisis starting with a January class for UMN students in Puerto Rico (and Puerto Rican collaborators will travel to Minnesota in May of 2019). If this class might be of interest, please let us know here and we will send you more details.
  • PA 5743: Acara Changemakers Workshop, January 14-18 2019, 1.5 credits. Do you have an idea for an organization, initiative or venture that could address a social or environmental problem? This course is designed to help aspiring social entrepreneurs and changemakers from all disciplines develop a viable proposal for social change.
Acara is committed to helping graduate and professional school students to be effective changemakers. If these programs don’t work for you but you are interested in working together, please e-mail acara@umn.edu. We look forward to hearing from you!
