MURP student Xinjia Ouyang internship with Changzhou City Planning Bureau

MURP student Xinjia Ouyang is spending the summer of 2015 as Changzhou City Planning Bureau Research and Planning Intern, City of Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China.

Changzhou City Planning Bureau (CCPB) is the primary government agency that directs the overall planning for the City of Changzhou. Changzhou has a total population of four million people and a total area of 1700 sq mi. The CCPB is asking him to work on the revision of the master plan of the City for the next 20 years (2020-2040). In addition, Xinjia helps with  comprehensive planning, urban design, and zoning.

In addition, he has the opportunity to attend relevant events around Changzhou.

To get his internship, Xinjia was required to demonstrate a general understanding of city planning and a deep understanding of a specific area such as economy, transportation, environment, etc. Excellent writing and communications skills were required. Previous research, outreach, or media experience also was helpful and proficiency in using Office software, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
