Inclusive education and reforms in disability sector across former communist Eastern Europe, and in this particular case, in Romania, seem to remain an unrealistic goal of the civil society and human rights defenders. The Struggle for Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Romania is an attempt to map the landscape of a profoundly segregationist system that leaves the school thousands of children with disabilities, that keeps in isolation tens of thousands of persons with disabilities in closed facilities, deprived of the most basic human rights and wastes the lives of generations of persons with disabilities who could have been contributors to the social life. Who are the main actors responsible, what are the advocacy efforts, relevant case-law and possible solutions, while looking at the existent national and international policies in the area are the main questions approached?
