REMINDER: Freeman Seminar, Dec. 5, 12:45 in HHH 180: Nuclear Weapons & Foreign Policy

A Freeman Seminar: Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Policy
Mark Bell, Assistant Professor
Department of Political Science, College of Liberal Arts

Tuesday, December 5, 2017 12:45-2:00 pm Humphrey School Room 180 (note: this is not the usual venue)

How would Iran behave if it acquired nuclear weapons? How do North Korea's nuclear weapons influence its foreign policy today? Looking ahead, if U.S. allies such as South Korea or Japan were to acquire nuclear weapons, how would their foreign policy toward the United States change? More broadly, what happens to the foreign policies of states when they acquire nuclear weapons? Drawing from the history of the nuclear age, Professor Bell offers a framework for thinking about how nuclear weapons affect the foreign policies of the states that possess them, with significant implications for international security and U.S. nonproliferation policy.

All are welcome!
